Moving to Bluesky: A Simple Guide for New Users

We've finally taken the plunge into BlueSky, hopefully you are ready to join this new social media experience. Bluesky, a decentralised platform created by Jack Dorsey, offers a fresh start with more control and transparency. If you’re considering making the switch from Twitter (X), here’s a simple guide to help you get started.

1. Sign Up for Bluesky

Firstly create an account on Bluesky. Visit website and follow the sign-up instructions. You’ll need to provide some basic information and choose a unique handle. For example, our handle is @stormhour.bsky.social (Follow us first!)

2. Set Up Your Profile

Once you’ve signed up add a profile picture, write a bio, and link to your other social media accounts or website. This helps others find and connect with you. Don’t forget to follow us at @stormhour.bsky.social!

3. Explore and Connect

Start exploring the platform by following other users and joining communities that interest you. We have combined StormHour and ThePhotoHour into the one account so you only need to follow us once. Keeps it's easy for our volunteers to maintain. Bluesky’s decentralised nature means you have more control over your feed and interactions. Engage with posts, share your thoughts, and build your network.

4. Customise Your Experience

Bluesky allows for a high level of customisation. You can adjust your privacy settings, choose which algorithms influence your feed, and even create your own moderation rules ensuring a more personalised and positive experience.

5. Spread the Word and Be Nice

Encourage your followers on other platforms to join you on Bluesky. Share your Bluesky handle with your current followers. The more people join, the richer the community becomes.
As with Twitter we don't get involved in anything other than communal weather and photography so be nice to each other.

By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying all that Bluesky has to offer. Remember to follow us at @stormhour.bsky.social for updates and community engagement. Happy posting!
