Question 1. What was your most memorable weather event?

Most memorable is the recent Simla Tornado of 2015. It was a gorgeous thunderstorm that started well north of Simla, Colorado, showed lots of shear but was very slow to move. Most chasers left that storm but once it went against the mean storm flow (it headed south, mean storm motion was northerly) I knew it was going to do something. About an hour or so later when the storm neared Simla it dropped a significant tornado that was long lasting and the prettiest one I ever saw (storm actually dropped multiple tornadoes).

In other events, I worked Tropical Storm Fay that was the longest two weeks of my career and the Greensburg Tornado in 2007 was the most significant in-studio weather event that I’ve covered.

Question 2. What is your favourite and least favourite type of weather?

The same, Tornadoes. I love the science involved but fear the damage and fatal nature of them.

Question 3. If you weren’t a meteorologist what would you most like to be?

Pilot. Still get to enjoy the atmosphere but from a much faster/noisier seat.

Question 4. From a purely meteorological point of view, where would you most like to live?

Right here in Denver. We get such a variety of weather and the terrain’s impact on local weather patterns is fascinating.

Question 5. Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I love weather, always have and always will. It’s a fascination that started when I was just a toddler. Mom tells of me running outside every chance I could to look around at the sky. I hope that I share than enthusiasm in my day job, which isn’t much of a job because they are paying me to do what I would be doing anyway…  🙂
