As lifeguards were being trained on using drones for emergency rescue situations this occurred. The drone reached the swimmers who were in difficulty in the Australian surf, within 70 seconds, where as swimmers would have taken 6 minutes. After dropping the inflatable the pair were able to safely swim to shore.

New rescue drones were barely out of the box before they were put to use in a real rescue at Lennox Head, on the NSW far north coast.
